Freeze for a Reason March 21
Next weekend, many locals and visitors will be freezin’ for a reason. Back for its tenth year, the Special Olympics New York Polar Plunge is this Saturday, March 21.
Next Saturday, grab your friends, family and co-workers and take a dip into the chilly Atlantic for a good cause. The Special Olympics Polar Plunge is taking place on Beach 94th Street on March 21. In person registration will take place from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and the plunge will take place at 11:15 a.m. You can join as a team or as an individual.
All proceeds raised go toward Special Olympics New York programs, which support inclusive opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities, who compete in coached sports. Several teams and individuals have already hit the ground running in their fundraising efforts. After all, those who raise $150 or more get a 2026 Polar Plunge hoodie.
As we go to press, the top fundraising team so far with nearly $5,495 raised are the Cross Island Superstorms. Behind them are Team Polar Bares with $4,142, and Kiwanis Rockaways with nearly $1,700. The top individual is Jonathan Reichler of the Cross Island Superstorms with $1,141, followed by Daniel Chang with $1,100 and Robert Hintelmann of Polar Bares at $625. Right behind him is Rockaway’s own Theresa Trainor of St. Cold-millus Special Olympics at $600.
Think you can beat them? Take the plunge and raise some funds! Hopefully the weather will be good! The water temperature will be in the low 40s. Brave the waves and take a dip for Special Olympics!
