Ariola, Irish Arts Center Distribute Books for St. Patrick’s Day
Councilwoman Joann Ariola teamed up with the Irish Arts Center to bring an Irish literature giveaway to Beach 116th Street on Tuesday, March 17, setting up a table of free books by Irish authors for commuters and shoppers on the busy commercial strip in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day.
“Ireland has given us some of the world’s greatest writers, and this is an amazing way to introduce that rich literary tradition to readers right here in Rockaway,” Councilwoman Joann Ariola said. “It was incredible to see so many people stop by, pick up a book, and learn more about what Ireland has to offer, and I’m proud to partner with the Irish Arts Center to bring this event to the community and let locals deepen their understanding of Irish heritage and broaden their views on Irish culture.”

“Literature is one of Ireland’s greatest and most enduring traditions, and Book Day is Irish Arts Center’s way of sharing that legacy with New Yorkers across the five boroughs,” said Rachael Gilkey, Director of Programming and Education at Irish Arts Center. “We’re grateful to partners like Councilmember Joann Ariola who—alongside other civic leaders and Irish Arts Center staff and volunteers—help us distribute thousands of free books each year on St. Patrick’s Day. Together, we’re celebrating not only the richness of Irish storytelling but also the way stories continue to connect us across cultures, languages, and communities.”
The event was part of the Irish Arts Center’s annual Book Day celebration, which distributes free Irish literature across New York City each St. Patrick’s Day.
