Let’s Meet, Mr. Mayor

Dear Editor:

Rockaway suffered two serious blows last week when the mayor released his Executive Budget. There were no funds for the trauma center or the Rockaway rail line. Our hardworking mayor doesn’t know Rockaway. He spent very little time here during the campaign. When invited to a Rockaway Town Hall last December, his office said he wanted to appoint his Deputy Mayors and Commissioners first.

Now, we are coming to June. The mayor and City Council have to negotiate a final budget. All of our local elected officials and civic groups support these projects. Resorts World should support a train to the Casino. The PBA should support the trauma center. Council Member Selvena Brooks-Powers has agreed to help set up the Town Hall. Let’s give the mayor a choice of June dates. The united voice of our multicultural Rockaway will be too strong to ignore.
