A Beautiful Day for a Run
By Katie McFadden
On Saturday, October 25, hundreds of runners came out for a beautiful day of pounding the boardwalk pavement for the Rockaway Track Club’s marathon, half marathon and 5K as many get ready to take on the New York City Marathon on November 2.

Nearly 70 runners opted for the 26.2-mile marathon, nearly 140 took on the half marathon and more than 50 ran the 5K. Joining in the fun was a group of young athletes that used adaptive equipment to race.

In the first wave of the marathon, starting at 6:30 a.m., the top three overall were Matteo Przyszczykowski at 3:24:43, Ado Apenteng at 3:51:55 and Andres Madrigal at 3:52:23 and the first female was Maeve Kenny at 4:34:32. In the second wave, starting at 8 a.m. the top three were Zeke Nelson at 3:08:19, first female Ariana Fazal at 3:19:15 and Oliver Hughes 3:25:06.

“Overall, everything went great!” Rockaway Track Club organizer Jim McVeigh said afterwards. “Rockaway Track is very grateful for the most amazing and inspiring runners to come out to the beach to run a full marathon and half marathon and 5k. Our prayers have been answered by our Lord with the best weather possible! May all the runners today and next Sunday be safe, healthy and successful in the pursuit of their dream.”

The next RTC event will be the Thanksgiving half marathon and 5K. For more info, see www.rockawaytc.org
