A Delicious Potato Feast

The potato, that lovely starch vegetable, is the third most important crop in the world, and its culinary uses know no bounds. That was proven on Saturday, October 11, as the Beach 91st Community Garden held its first Potato Fest to demonstrate the many ways potatoes can be used and invited all to try the creative dishes out.
In potato pot-luck style, where people could bring their own dishes, the event showcased an impressive array of potato-based appetizers, sides, entrees and even desserts, highlighting the versatility of potatoes in various culinary creations. People brought everything from sweet potatoes to mashed potatoes, sweet potato brownies, potato bundt cake, Tortilla Espanola, deviled potatoes, potato salad and so much more, all available for $7 all you can eat. The event was complete with games and crafts, and butter-covered potato art pieces decorated the garden. There was even a potato education table to teach people about some of the varieties of potatoes and provide fun facts. DJ Baroque Erin Moon set the tone with a jazzy music selection, while flutist Danielle Hanna entertained the attendees as they dove into their starchy dishes. Overall, the event was deemed a success!
