A Furry Halloween
By Katie McFadden
Some local furry friends put their best paw forward at the annual ARF-ARF Halloween costume contest at the Rockaway Freeway Dog Park on Saturday, October 28.
About 20 costumed pups and their humans turned out on the beautiful, warm Saturday afternoon. From pumpkins to princesses, spiders to a wolf in sheep’s clothing, there was some great competition. With prize donations from Tails Dog Walking, Bark Box and Purina, ARF-ARF, (Allied Rockaway Foundation for Animal Recreation and Fitness) was able to give out prizes to a top three and a barkload of honorable mentions.
Top dog was a husky dressed as a wolf in sheep’s clothing, along with his dad who dressed up with him. In second place were two pups coordinated as Batman and Robin. In third place was Tilly the witch, who also came dressed up with her owner. Honorable mention prizes went to four tiny chihuahuas dressed in their spookiest looks, two dogs dressed up as pickles, a princess Pomeranian, a creepy spider dog and a big pumpkin pup.
ARF-ARF is planning on holding their next event at the new dog park on Shore Front Parkway. For more information, make sure to follow ARF ARF on Instagram and Facebook.
