Access to Capital Event to Support Small Business Owners

Access to Capital Event to Support Small Business Owners

By Katie McFadden

One of the biggest challenges when it comes to starting a business or staying afloat is funding. Local resident Gail Johnson of CA$H DA$H ON THE ROCK is hoping to put funding back on the peninsula by providing local small business owners with an opportunity to meet with all the right players to access capital to support their business.

On Saturday, January 10, small business owners and entrepreneurs who hope to open a business on the peninsula are invited to join the Access to Capital+ event this Saturday, January 10 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Peninsula Preparatory Academy at 6 -11 Beach 19th Street in Far Rockaway.

The event will provide an opportunity for brick-and-mortar small business owners, and micro, pre and start up entrepreneurs to meet with lenders such as banks, micro lenders, alternative funders plus attorneys, CPAs, marketing professionals, tax advisors and insurance specialists who can help guide you through accessing capital and managing certain financial aspects of a business.

According to Johnson, “The number one reason for the failure of all small businesses is lack of access to capital. Undercapitalization. The reasons are as varied as the types of businesses; underestimating start-up costs, difficulty getting business loans, bad financial management, slow sales, which ultimately lead to shutdowns despite potentially strong products and customer demand.”

Saturday’s program begins at 10 a.m. with lenders and business advisors showcasing their programs for about three minutes each during the first hour. From 11 a.m. to noon, attendees can network with the lenders and business advisors at tables and from noon to 2 p.m., there will be private one-on-one consultations with attendees to discuss financial programs and present documentation. There will also be a photo booth area for event promotion.

Those attending the event can enter the parking lot of St. Mary’s Star of the Sea Church on Beach 20th near New Haven Avenue and proceed up the staircase on the outside left of Peninsula Preparatory Academy.
