Arverne East Wildlife Habitat and Beautification Project

Last Sunday, May 4, the American Littoral Society organized a major native tree, shrub, and wildflower planting at the nature preserve site located between Beach 44th and 56th Streets in east Arverne. On hand to do the planting were over 80 volunteers from the We Luv You Foundation, Littoral Society, and NYC Park Rangers. Despite the rain, they managed to plant over 250 plants to provide cover, berries, and flowers for the many bird and pollinator species that either nest there or migrate through the site. The flowering shrubs and evergreen trees add much beauty to the trail sides for visitors to enjoy. Many thanks to the NYC Park Rangers as well as the 80+ volunteers from the We Luv You Foundation who always work hard and in all weather conditions. The plants were paid for by a donation from the Goulder Family in loving memory of their sister Cindy Goulder, a landscaper who dedicated her life to helping beautify NYC parks.
