Dog Parade on Sunday
Last week was for the mermaids. This one’s for the dogs. Get ready to dress your pet in their cutest look and put their best paw forward at the 2nd Annual Rockaway Dog Parade on Sunday, September 24.
On Sunday at 11 a.m., bring your dressed up pet to the grassy area near the Beach 108th hockey rink for check-in before the parade hits the boardwalk at noon. It ends at Beach 95th Street for an after-pawty at the new amphitheater. This year’s theme is Dogtoberfest, so you might want to put doggy lederhosen on your radar, but all costumes are welcome. Prizes for the top three dogs will go to the overall best dressed, the funniest dog and best matching, so don’t be afraid to coordinate with your pup.
You’ll have to impress this year’s judges including Bobbi Mitchell from Pups on the Runway, Samantha Cintron of NurtureU Wellness, and local pet sitter Captain Rizzo.
Prizes include a TrustedHouseSitters premium, annual membership value of $350, a gift basket from Connor’s Canine Cookies (value $100), an Animal Communication session with Jill Lauri (value $159) and a Rockaway Creates membership ($120 value).
This year’s sponsor is doggy daycare and groomer, Pawlacio Pets, and proceeds benefit nonprofit organization ARF-ARF, which oversees Rockaway’s dog parks. Entry into the contest costs just $5. For tickets, head to Eventbrite.com and search Rockaway Dog Parade.
