Free Summer Meal Program Available
Assemblywoman Stacey Pheffer Amato announced that the “Free Summer Meals” program has once again begun. There are several locations in the 23rd Assembly District where those 18 years old and younger can get free meals from now through August 29.
“This is a great program to guarantee that all our children have access to grab a meal,” Assemblywoman Pheffer Amato said. “For years I have worked to fight food insecurity because no child should ever be hungry! That mission continues over the summer, even when school is not in session, which is why I want families to know and use this free opportunity for children.” Due to the efforts by Pheffer Amato and the NYS Legislature, starting this school year, all students at public, private, or charter schools will be eligible for free meals.
Assemblywoman Pheffer Amato ensured that locations for her constituents would be open Monday-Friday, with some locations serving breakfast, lunch, or both. Meals are provided by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) through the Office of Food & Nutrition Services, a part of the New York City Department of Education.
Locations on the Rockaway peninsula include:
- The Far Rockaway Library, located at 1637 Central Avenue, will serve lunch from 1pm-2pm
- The Randolph Holder School for Social Justice, located at 1307 Central Avenue, will serve breakfast from 8am-9:15am, and lunch from 11am-1:15pm
