Gotham Whale Continues Legacy For New York’s Whales
Gotham Whale, the leading non-profit organization in the New York and New Jersey area dedicated to the research, conservation, and education of the region’s marine mammals, has annouced exciting new milestones in its efforts to protect the whales returning to the waters surrounding New York City. With a whale catalog now surpassing 400 individuals, Gotham Whale is calling for public support and volunteer involvement to further its mission.
Paul Sieswerda, the beloved founder of Gotham Whale, passed away less than a year ago, leaving behind a strong legacy of community-driven science and advocacy. Through Sieswerda’s pioneering work, whales—once rare in New York waters—are now a growing and vital presence.
“My father opened the region’s eyes to the majestic marine mammals sharing our waters,” said PJ Sieswerda, Chairman of Gotham Whale. “We’re building on his vision to deepen our scientific understanding of these whales while expanding educational outreach to schools and universities.”
To continue this important work, Gotham Whale is seeking donations and volunteer support. Contributions will help further the research and protection of these extraordinary creatures. The organization also provides educational programs designed to inspire the next generation of marine stewards.
In honor of Paul L. Sieswerda’s legacy, Gotham Whale is hosting a Sunset Whale Watching Cruise on from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 21, 2024, off the shores of Belmar, New Jersey. The cruise promises breathtaking views and a unique opportunity to witness whales in their natural habitat. Meet at: Jersey Shore Whale Watch, 905 NJ-35, Belmar Marina, New Jersey. Limited tickets available at bit.ly/SunsetWhales
Join in celebrating Paul’s life, learning about the whales he so loved, and supporting the continuation of Gotham Whale’s vital mission. Together, we can ensure that New York’s waters remain a safe and welcoming habitat for these incredible animals.
