Harsh Criticism
Dear Editor:
(In response to Mr. Eidinger’s letter in the 10/23 issues on candidate Tom Sullivan) Over these past few editions of both the RT and The Wave, I have noticed that the usual decorum in your letters to the editor is lacking. It is appalling that you thought it was ok to not only bash Mr. Sullivan’s looks, but to suggest that he doesn’t have the capacity to hire competent campaign staff. In your own letter’s words: “…so they don’t look like a used car salesperson seeing a fish walk onto their car lot.” What did you think would come about when you crafted that insult in your head? That people would be okay with that? Perhaps some who agree with you are, but the majority of decent people don’t. Whether or not you like Mr. Sullivan’s campaign strategy is a personal choice of yours, but one that does not give you the right to berate him. I would not tolerate the same behavior if someone said the same for Stacey Pheffer Amato. I say this as a Trump supporter and Republican. I understand that politics is a heated game right now, but that is no excuse for your behavior.
I also want to correct what is, once again, misinformation on your part about Trump. Success is not measured by failures. In fact, it is through failure that one finds success. You mention the few failed businesses Trump launched, but neglected to mention his other multi-million-dollar enterprises that are successful. To date: the Grand Hyatt Hotel, Trump Tower, Wollman Rink, 40 Wall Street, Trump Place, and the Trump International Tower in Chicago. I am a person who sees the glass as both half full and empty, Mr. Eidinger. I am not blind to his failures, but I do not ignore his successes as you and others often do. I suppose it’s easier to critique someone than to compliment them.
