If you received one, don’t forget to leave out your blue bags this Saturday, November 16. The Graybeards and RIBS are having their annual food drive and will be collecting the blue bags of food items house to house which will be delivered to local food pantries. See their ad on page 5 for more details.

Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Sandee Doremus. She died on Monday, November 11. Doremus was the longtime liaison for Senator Joseph Addabbo. A memorial service will be held in the spring.

There is a CYO fall fundraiser concert tomorrow night, Friday, November 15 at 7 p.m. at St. Francis de Sales. The Pointers will open the show at 7 p.m., followed by the Rock and Roll Doctors. Tickets are available at www.cyodob.org

Join the Rockaway Black Surfing Association and NYC Plover Project for a warm Thanksgiving meal! On Saturday, November 23, they will be distributing free meals outside of the NYPD 100th Precinct at 92-24 Rockaway Beach Blvd. from noon until the supply lasts. This is free and open to the public.

The Campaign Against Hunger (TCAH) is also hosting a Thanksgiving Giveaway on Friday, November 22, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at 45-55 Beach Channel Drive. You must have a ticket to get in. Tickets are available at the following three sites: Beach Dunes Eats & Arts Cafe (45-19 Rockaway Beach Blvd.), TCAH Far Rock Farm (45-55 Beach Channel Drive), and TCAH Arverne View Warehouse (571-17 Rockaway Beach Blvd.). Limit is one ticket per person, while supplies last.

The Queens Community Justice Center of the Rockaways is having a winter coats giveaway on Tuesday, November 19 at 6:30 p.m. until they run out at 1027 Beach 20 St. For more information, contact moreyes@nycourts.gov or 917-600-9891.

Reminder to property owners and managers: Beginning November 12, 2024, all properties with 1-9 residential units will be required to use bins (55 gallons or less), with secure lids to set out trash. You can use a compliant bin (55 gallons or less with a secure lid) that you already have, but starting June 2026, you must use an official NYC bin.

Rockaway’s first legal marijuana shop opened its doors last week. Munchies Dispensary is located at 8701 Rockaway Beach Blvd., in the same lot as Dominos, Dunkin, Popeyes and Key Food, in case you get hungry. Two other licenses for marijuana shops have been issued by the state, so expect to see more soon.
