 High Tide

Advertiser and reader reminder: Next week is a short week for us due to the holiday. Our deadline will be noon on Tuesday, November 26, for ads. The paper will be delivered on Wednesday, November 27 and the email version of the paper will go out Wednesday morning as well.

And with next week a short one, put those orders in now, and make those reservations today. And start by checking the pages of where else? The Rockaway Times! Many of our advertisers are offering holiday specials for the upcoming holiday season. Whether it be sales or parties, please look right here in the Rockaway Times for some pretty great deals. The peninsula has so much to offer! When you take advantage of the deals our great advertisers offer, be sure to tell them you saw their ad in The Rockaway Times. We would greatly appreciate that!

The annual food drive of the Graybeards and RIBS was another success thanks to all of you who donated in the blue bags, and to the Graybeards and RIBS who collected and delivered them to the St. Mary’s Food Pantry and others in need around the peninsula. What a great way to start the Thanksgiving season.

It seems that our Kids’ Korner (found on page 38 of this week’s paper) has not limited itself to only stumping the children in our midst. We’ve heard from multiple adult readers who say they look forward to the challenge each week and have even asked that we print the correct answers each following week. Go give it a shot and see if you can master the Kids’ Korner.

We have written about many generous groups over the last few weeks offering free Thanksgiving meals to those in need of one to celebrate the holiday. The 100th Precinct is also hosting its annual free Thanksgiving cooked meal for the community on Thanksgiving morning, Thursday, November 28 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the precinct (92-24 Rockaway Beach Blvd.).

How about a fun run to begin your Thanksgiving Day? The Rockaway Track Club is having a 5K Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning, November 28, on the boardwalk at Beach 108th Street at 10 a.m. You can sign up on their website ahead of time at www.rockawaytc.org, or go to Healy’s Pub (108-07 Rockaway Beach Drive) starting at 9 a.m.

Councilwoman Joann Ariola is hosting a Christmas Pet Supply Drive for our local animal rescues, who need basic supplies during this busy holiday season. Even the smallest donation like a roll of paper towels or dish soap can make a difference for those caring for animals in need. If you have any donations to drop off, she is collecting at her Rockaway office, 114-12 Beach Channel Drive until December 20.

Didn’t get your Rockaway Times this week? Make sure to take another look! Moving forward, when the forecast calls for inclement weather, your home-delivered copy of The Rockaway Times will be inserted in the same bag as the coupon circular that usually accompanies the paper. In addition to keeping the paper dry in the poor weather, we know that bags getting swept around in the Rockaway wind has always been an issue and we hope that using one less bag will help to alleviate that. If you would rather read the paper online, send an email to mail@rockawaytimes.com and we will sign you up for our weekly email blast.
