It may be getting dark early these days, but with all the holiday lights up and down the peninsula, it’s not hard to find a little light in the darkness.

The peninsula lost a legend. Gert Hendry passed away last week at the young age of 101. Many of us knew Gert from the dance classes she taught or from her work on the Breezy Point Teen Show. Gert loved life and taught so many generations of young people good life lessons. See a tribute to Gert on page 26 of this paper. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and loved ones. Rest in Peace Gert.

According to Councilwoman Joann Ariola, our friends at NYC Ferry have promised that for the first week of the A train outage, they will be running larger 350-person boats (as opposed to the standard 150-person ferry) in order to meet the increased demand. After that week, they will assess ridership to ascertain whether or not the larger boat is needed during the remainder of the A train outage.
