The A service shutdown starts tomorrow, January 17, and is expected to last until mid-May. During this time, the A train will not run from Howard Beach – JFK Airport to Far Rockaway – Mott Avenue or Rockaway Park Beach 116th Street. For the first three days, there will be a shuttle running from both Beach 116th and Mott Avenue to Howard Beach. Beginning on January 20, a free shuttle train will run from Beach 116th Street to Mott Avenue making all local stops. For those going to Howard Beach from the peninsula, there will be a bus — the Q109 — running from Beach 67th Street to Howard Beach making stops at Beach 90th and Broad Channel. Uptown commuters will have to take the shuttle train to Beach 90th or Beach 67th to catch the Q109 to Howard Beach. If you have driven by Floyd Bennett Field this past week, you will have noticed that the tents that housed the migrants over this past year are in the process of being removed as the shelter was due to be closed as of yesterday, January 15, and the migrants that were housed have been sent to other city shelters.

There will be no trash collection on Monday, January 20, because of the MLK Day holiday. Residents who normally receive Monday trash, curbside composting, or recycling collection may place their material at the curb Monday evening, for collection beginning Tuesday, January 21.
