We’re sadly losing another business. LuBella Boutique on Beach 129th Street announced that they will be closing on April 29. The clothing store opened in August 2019. All merchandise is 70% off, shoes are $10, and boots are $15. Let this be a reminder to please support our local businesses when you can!

Last Saturday, strong winds led to an incident at the Beach 108th Street ferry landing causing enough damage that the entire landing needed to be closed for repair. The landing remained closed throughout Sunday and into Monday morning, causing some disruption for the peninsula’s morning commuters. Luckily, by Monday afternoon, the repairs had been completed and service was restored. Kudos to the ferry for its attention to the situation and quick restoration.

Congratulations to Sienna James of Broad Channel. She is one of this year’s winners of the inaugural Steven H. Pollard ’06 Memorial Scholarship at St. Edmund Preparatory High School. Firefighter Steven Pollard was a graduate of St. Edmund Prep, Class of 2006, and a native of Marine Park. He was a member of Ladder Company 170 in Brooklyn before tragically passing away from critical injuries sustained while responding to a motor vehicle accident on the Mill Basin Bridge on the Belt Parkway on Sunday, January 6, 2019.

Jagger Eaton, the first American to win an Olympic medal for skateboarding, at the 2021 Summer Games in Tokyo, was seen hitting the ramps at Rockaway’s own skatepark on Beach 90th Street on Monday. He came with a camera crew, so we suspect he was filming something that maybe we’ll get to see in the future.

Commuter Alert: the Rockaway Freeway between Beach 106th and Beach 102nd Streets will be closed for construction from April 22 though April 30.
