With the drownings this summer, we always have to remind everyone to only swim where there are lifeguards stationed and when the lifeguards are on duty — from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. NYPD announced this week that a man named Kristoffer Williams was found unresponsive in the water on Beach 95th on July 17. He was taken to St. John’s, where he was pronounced deceased, marking the fourth drowning in Rockaway this summer. There are two beach safety/water rescue events this week to take note of on the peninsula. The first is a Water Rescue Demonstration by the FDNY Marine Unit and NYPD Air & Sea Rescue, today, Thursday, August 1st from 1:30 to 3 p.m. on the beach at Beach 63rd Street. The second is a Beach Safety and Water Rescue Awareness Training by the NYPD Community Affairs and NYPD SCUBA Team, on Friday, August 2 at 11 a.m. at Beach 97th Street and Shorefront Parkway.
