Let’s Get Paddling!

The Community Boathouse located at the future site of Bay Breeze Park, on Beach Channel Drive and Beach 88th Street, has started preparations for the Summer of 2023 Kayaking and Stand-Up Paddle Season!

The non-profit organization is run entirely by volunteers from Rockaway and from across the city. The Boathouse provides access to free kayaking and stand-up paddle equipment right on beautiful Jamaica Bay.

Part of the organization’s mission is to raise awareness of the natural environment and our role within it. The importance of maintaining the health of our ecosystem, which includes the native fauna and flora of Jamaica Bay, cannot be overstated. During the summer season, scheduled kayaking tours reveal amazing up-close encounters with the surrounding tidal marsh lands of the Bay, where it’s typical to see egrets, oyster catchers, turtles, horseshoe crabs and even the occasional seal.

On Saturday, June 10, over twenty volunteers participated in a clean-up of the launch site and park grounds. Several large contractor bags of trash and jetsam were collected. In addition, the volunteers prepared safety equipment, kayaks and the launch site for public access beginning at the end of June.
