Locals Helping Locals’ Back to School drive and supply giveaway was a success!

On Sunday, August 31, local moms Evelyn Ortiz and Lisa DeFillipo teamed up with GrindTime Skate Shop on Beach 91st Street to give away backpacks full of school supplies, ahead of the start of the school year. Kids were encouraged to write what they want to be when they grow up with responses like everything from an NBA player to a singer, structural engineer, paleontologist and more. Then they were welcome to a backpack, supplies, books, arts and crafts, bubbles, juices and snacks.

The giveaway was made possible with the generous donations of GrindTime, The Graybeards, Rockaway W.I.S.H., Queens Community Justice Center, Munchies, Beachside Pharmacy, 88 I Café, David Rivera and Best Caribbean Restaurant and Grill. “Thank you to everyone who helped make today possible,” Ortiz said after the event.
