Nicole Frontera Beauty Celebrates 10 Years

Following Hurricane Sandy, Nicole Frontera, a certified nurse and esthetician was surprised to find she was getting more calls than ever for her cosmetic services. And it made her realize that Rockaway was missing a location where people could have them done locally, rather than traveling to medical beauty spas in Manhattan or elsewhere. So in November 2013, she took a chance on being her own boss to fill that need and opened Nicole Frontera Beauty. This Black Friday, Nicole Frontera Beauty (NFB) will celebrate its 10th anniversary.

“We feel very grateful to have been lucky enough to be part of this community as a business for 10 years,” Nicole Frontera said. A lot has changed for NFB since it opened at 104-02 Rockaway Beach Blvd. And it’s only gotten bigger and better. “When we opened our doors 10 years ago, we started with four rooms,” Frontera said. “It was myself, one esthetician and Cindy Cooke answering the phones. We were limited to a few services in one laser device.” In the summer of 2022, NFB was able to expand, taking over the adjoining store to double their space. “We now have 10 rooms and 12 employees and offer a full menu of a variety of services from medical grade facials to hormone replacement to injectables,” she said.

While NFB has undergone many changes over 10 years, some things remain the same. Cooke remains as office manager at NFB. “Cindy who is our office manager has been with us since day one and we are very grateful for her time and dedication,” Frontera said. And there are many other familiar faces. “We have been lucky enough to retain most of our staff over the years except a few who have relocated to different states,” Frontera said. Plus with the expansion last year, NFB keeps adding more. “We keep building our team of dedicated professionals whom all share the same goal of making our clients happy,” she said.

As with any small business, NFB has seen its struggles, especially when they had to shut their doors due to reasons beyond their control, but it hasn’t stopped them. “Like any business, we had our ups and downs, especially during Covid, but we’ve been lucky enough to weather the storms, and to always be growing. We owe that to our wonderful community who continues to support us,” Frontera said.

There’s a lot to be said for a small business to keep running successfully after 10 years. “I think it shows how dedicated we are as a business to provide high quality care,” Frontera said. “We always operate with the goal of making people look and feel their best. We are extremely thankful to all of our loyal customers and the Rockaway Beach community.”

And after NFB closes after a busy Black Friday, the staff will have plenty to celebrate as they mark 10 years. “Black Friday is always the busiest day of the year for us so traditionally most of our staff is working until late and we usually close the day with a champagne toast,” Frontera said.

Nicole Frontera has even more reasons to celebrate recently. Not only has NFB undergone a major expansion, but Frontera has expanded beyond Rockaway, opening a second location—The Formula by Nicole Frontera in Rye, New York. After seeing many clients come all the way from the Westchester area to utilize her services in Rockaway, she decided to bring a store closer to them. The Formula held a soft opening in August and an official grand opening in September. “We have many clients that travel a far distance to come to us and Westchester was one area many of our clients were commuting from,” Frontera said. “We chose Rye specifically because it has a really warm small town feel like Rockaway and we just felt at home right away.”

As with any new business, nerves are running high, but if running a successful business for 10 years had proven anything, there’s no doubt that Frontera can do it once again. “There are many feelings when you open another business. It’s very stressful and scary but I continue to remind myself of how long it took to make our Rockaway location successful, and it makes me feel better,” she said.

Frontera is not yet sure if she’ll expand even further, but she is constantly expanding her own knowledge. “I am very big on research and education. I am always taking classes to learn more about aesthetics and wellness,” she said. In fact, was doing just that earlier this week. “I’m actually stuck right now in Barcelona because I was at an expert summit with international doctors learning the latest technology on anti-aging and aesthetic treatments. At NFB we offer the most cutting edge, evidence-based technologies to give our clients safe and effective treatments,” Frontera said.
