Officers Needed in BC
Dear Editor:
As a grandmother, I am pleading with Captain Carol Hamilton of the 100th Precinct to place a police car in Broad Channel for a few hours a day. We have asked her at the Broad Channel Civic meeting to please help us keep our children safe from a terrible situation that I feel may take a child’s life. I have witnessed, too many times, numerous cars speeding through our turning lanes when there is a steady red light. At that time, when the light is red, our children, and senior citizens believe it is safe to cross, many do not see the speeding car coming through the turning lane and stop in their tracks just in the nick of time. These drivers go into the turning lane to pass cars that are stopped at the red light. Of course, we also have the speeding cars that blast through a steady red light in the regular lanes.
I appreciate all the difficult work our officers do every day, and I applaud them for continuing to arrest those who break the law. This plea comes as a concerned grandmother who does not want to see what I feel may be coming. Please station a car at our lights and catch these drivers before we lose a child.
