PS/MS 183 Demands Respect for Paraprofessionals

On Tuesday, March 18, the staff at PS/MS 183 on Beach 79th Street wore Respect for Paraprofessionals shirts to convey the importance for the city to support the additional $10,000 respect check for paraprofessionals. The action is part of an effort to get City Council to pass proposed legislation that would give every UFT-represented paraprofessional a permanently recurring annual payment of $10,000 or more. The UFT hopes the legislation could boost paraprofessional staffing numbers. On Wednesday, April 2 at 3:45 p.m., as part of National ParaProfessional Appreciation Day, the UFT will be holding a Rally for Respect on Broadway, next to City Hall Park in Downtown Manhattan.
