Revealed Rockaway Relic Brings Priceless Memories

Anyone need anything from the five and ten?

Woolworths, around since 1879, went out of business nationwide in 1997 and all remaining stores closed. Bill Lavin, Woolworth’s CEO until 1994, was a Rockaway resident. The Beach 116th store was last a BBC Department Store, then a Job Lot and was going to be a daycare but it never opened. After the space was put up for rent recently, it looks like some action is taking place. The Edwina’s Little Angels and Job Lot signs came down, revealing this relic from the past.

We don’t know what will come of the sign, or what’s coming to the space, but after sharing the photos to our social media pages on Tuesday, it sparked a lot of shared memories from past employees and customers in the comments.
