Rogers Toy Drive With Gerald Bair
This Sunday, December 21, Rogers Pub will hold its 4th Annual Toy Drive with Gerald Bair and Friends. The event has continued a tradition that began many years ago when Bair was bartending and performing at the Blackwater Inn. The event features musical performances by Bair, and many of your favorite musicians of the thriving Rockaway scene and others, both separately and in collaboration with each other. It is an opportunity for the musicians to enjoy each other’s company, but most importantly, it brings them all together for a purpose-gathering toys for the many children of the Rockaways who are in less fortunate circumstances and in need of some Christmas joy.
When the tradition resumed at Rogers on Beach 116th Street, Bair reached out to his friend Keith “Bugsy” Goldberg to make a connection so that the toys could be distributed to the needy children of the Rockaways after the event. Through the Graybeards, Bugsy enlisted Little Angels, an organization started for just this purpose by Lisa Renda, who was already working with the Graybeards on similar events.
Bair will kick things off this Sunday at 4 p.m. and anticipates a great turnout of both musicians and especially patrons/supporters, who will once again demonstrate the great generosity of the people of Rockaway by filling Santa’s sleigh with toys for these children. An exciting lineup of musicians will make the day fun and memorable. Many thanks to Mike McMahon of Rogers for hosting the event and also to the Rogers’ staff, including “Queen of the Elves” Renee McKeown.
Please bring your unwrapped toys to the collection area by the dart boards to the side of the stage, and then settle in and have a few as you enjoy Gerald Bair and Friends and Rogers Pub 4th Annual Toy Drive.
