Shore Garden Club Gets Ready For The Holidays
By Marge McCarthy
The month of November was very busy for the Shore Garden Club as the members cleaned up garden beds and also enjoyed a presentation of holiday arrangements for the winter season.
Under the direction of Malla Baker, the members winterized the planters at P.S. 114 by removing the dead summer annuals and pruning the ivy, boxwood and liriope. The task was completed in no time with the help of eight members.
The following week, Sara Lefkowitz hosted our monthly meeting with a delicious luncheon in her home followed by holiday arrangements designed by Jean Ann Gottsch, Master Gardener from the Sumpwamp Garden Club. She designed small arrangements for Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and Hanukkah. She brought greens from her garden and containers from thrift stores and brightened them up with a few small flower and cute little adornments, proving that you don’t have to break the bank adding a festive touch to your home.
The arrangements were raffled off and many of the members went home winners. It was a very enjoyable afternoon.
