St. Camillus / St. Virgilius MVPs of the Week

By Bill Swensen

The St. Camillus/ St. Virgilius basketball program is underway with 150 local kids from 4th grade to 8th grade, playing in the Girls and Boys leagues. Here are some standout players this week.

Kate Tyminski

Girls League

Kate is our first player to get MVP of the week for a second time. Well-deserved because she is the most dominating player in the league. She really showed off all her skills this week and completely took over this game, blocking shots, rebounding, and scoring at a record pace. She had her best scoring game of the year with a remarkable 31 points. Kate was clearly the key to the Blue team being able to secure a 7-point win.

Brady James

Junior Boys League

Brady is a very strong player. Whether he is blocking out for rebounds or forcing his way towards the basket, he cannot be stopped. It seemed like every time you looked up, he was pulling down another rebound and once he got his hands on the ball, he was off and running. Brady forced his way into the paint all night and led all scorers with 21 points. Unfortunately, his team still fell just one-point short in a very exciting game with a thrilling finish.

Gavin Murray

Senior Boys

League

Gavin lit it up in this game. He is one of those players who really takes you by surprise. It seems like he’s just quietly playing his game and before you know it, he’s filled up the scorebook. He did it again tonight, leading all scorers with 28 points. Nobody could stop Gavin on this night. He played his heart out in this one and did everything he could to get his team a win, but his team still came up just little short.

Senior Boys

League

Brendan is a smooth player who is clearly the leader of his team. He orchestrates the offense with his incredible ball-handling skills and his ability to see the whole court. He gets his teammates involved and still has the ability to dominate the scoring when that’s what the team needs. This was one of those games that they needed his scoring. He has one of the purest 3-point shots in the league, and his quickness makes him a huge threat from inside as well. His 24 points led his Orange team to a well-deserved comeback win.
