St. Camillus / St. Virgilius MVPs of the Week

St. Camillus / St. Virgilius MVPs of the Week

The St. Camillus/ St. Virgilius basketball program is underway with about 150 local kids from 4th grade to 8th grade, playing in the Girls and Boys leagues. Here are some standout players this week.

Jessaly Rosario

Girls League

Jessaly was firing on all cylinders this week. She’s a great player, but this week her play went beyond great. This week she was setting records. Jessaly scored 23 points in the 1st quarter, which is the most points ever scored in one quarter in this league. She knocked down an amazing five 3-pointers in that quarter alone. Her fantastic play led the team to a solid victory.

Mara Brady

Girls League

Mara is a smooth player who can do everything and make it all look so easy. This week her team trailed most of the game, but then Mara really went to work in the 2nd half. She scored 10 in the 3rd period and then with time running out in the 4th she knocked down two huge 3-pointers to send the game into overtime. Her 25 points and overall excellent play allowed her team to come away with a hard fought 2-point win in overtime.

PJ Murphy

Junior Boys League

This week we had a battle of the undefeated, and in the biggest spot of the year, PJ came through again. This is a multi-talented player who can score in every way. His main move is his drive to the basket where he puts the ball up so quickly the defense has no chance. But that’s not all he can do. He hits mid-range jumpers and has a sweet shot from beyond the 3-point arc as well. His 21 points led his team to victory and secured them as the only undefeated Junior Boys team headed to the playoffs.

Sekou Harper

Senior Boys League

Sekou is a dominating force every week, but this week his talents were really on display. Playing unrelenting defense and being unstoppable on the offensive end. Pulling down strong offensive rebounds and getting the putbacks to go with them. He was knocking down 3’s, mid-range jumpers, and driving to the basket with such determination he could not be stopped. He ended up with a remarkable 31 points, and he did everything in his power to help his team try to get the win, but they ended up coming up just a few points short.
