Stuck Sally

 Stuck Sally

By By Shane Kulman

Dear Enchantress Shane,

I’ve been struggling with taking action in my life lately, like I am often melting on the couch. I often feel overwhelmed by the idea of starting something new or stepping outside my comfort zone, so I end up not doing anything at all. I know I’m capable of more, but I just can’t seem to push myself to show up. Why is it so important to show up, and how can I overcome this paralysis?

Also, I sometimes don’t know what to do next, so I usually just throw money at it, and then feel extra guilty that I don’t do any of the follow up.

Thank you in advance.

Dear Stuck Sally,

First of all, I want to acknowledge that you’re not alone in feeling this way, and even while you read this, purposefully ignore the self-critic voice, who makes EVERYTHING WORSE. Grappling with the fear of the unknown makes so much sense, which can make it hard to take that first step. But let me tell you—showing up is one of the most powerful things you can do for yourself. Read that again. And I am good at helping you figure out the smallest of steps to take. And you already have! You wrote this to me, so I am taking this moment to celebrate you. Count this outreach as the first step. WHOO HOOO!

Ok, showing up is the foundation of change. It’s the act of placing yourself in the arena, even when you’re not sure what the outcome will be. When you show up, you’re sending a message to yourself that you’re ready to engage with life, take risks, and grow. It’s the difference between staying stuck in a cycle of fear and moving toward your goals, dreams, and potential.

This is actually the first of the ten commandments of F*cking Your Fears! So grab my newest coloring book, which will make this process fun, and it’s an actual roadmap to not only erasing fears, but it’s transforming your fears into JOY!

Think of it this way: You can’t win the game if you don’t step onto the field. By showing up, you give yourself the chance to experience, learn, and evolve. Even if things don’t go perfectly, you’re still gaining valuable experience that will serve you in the future. Every time you show up, you’re strengthening your ability to take action, which makes it easier to keep doing so.

Now, how can you overcome the paralysis that’s holding you back? Start small. Showing up doesn’t always mean making huge, life-altering moves. It can be as simple as taking one small step toward your goal each day. The key is consistency. The more you practice showing up, the more natural it will become.

Also, remind yourself of why it’s important to you. What’s on the other side of that fear? Is it a dream you’ve always wanted to pursue? A life that feels more aligned with who you are? Keep that vision in mind, and let it pull you forward.

Remember, the hardest part is often just getting started. Once you show up, you’ll find that momentum begins to build, and what once seemed overwhelming becomes manageable—or even exciting.

So, take a deep breath, and step into the arena. You’ve got this! If you want more specific help in your actual idea or project, reach out to me again, and we can see if I am the best support for you.

With encouragement,

Enchantress Shane
