The Bare Necessities of SFDSCA Grade 5

Dear Editor:

Thank you for the inspiration. The St. Francis de Sales fifth graders decided to weigh in on what they felt were the “Bare Necessities” of life, just like Baloo from “The Jungle Book.”  Attached you will find a sampling. So we can all “rest at ease.”

If Mowgli can live with just “Bare Necessities,” so can I. For me, that is baseball. I love baseball because I go every weekend to a game and I love it. I also like it because it keeps me in shape, and I can meet new people. It is also very entertaining and fun. I love to go to Major League games and see the pros play. I love to eat from the concession stand and get candy after a game. This is why my “Bare Necessity” is baseball.

If Mowgli can live with just the “Bare Necessities” so can I. For me that is my parents. My parents are always so nice to me, and I am always nice to them. I wish I were able to be with them for the whole entire day, every day. I love them so much!

If Mowgli can live with just the “Bare Necessities,” so can I. For me, that is my game console(X-Box/iPad). They make me calm and relaxed. If my mom takes them away I say, “You have been warned.” Let’s just say it won’t be a fun day. I especially love Brawl Stars and DBZ Kakarot. Most importantly, I like playing with my friends and cousins.

If Mowgli can live with just the “Bare Necessities,” so can I. For me, that is my dad’s car. I need it to go to school every single day all year around. Also, if I didn’t have it, I would have to walk to school. It would be bad to walk there because my backpack weighs like 1,000,000,000,000 pounds. I always feel like my shoulders will break. I also need dad’s car to drive me to other places. It is my bare necessity.

If Mowgli can live with just “Bare Necessities,” so can I. For me, that is my dog. My dog’s name is Coco. I love my dog, because he is really playful. He is a winter dog, so in the winter he loves to play in the snow with me. He is really fluffy and feels like a teddy bear. He loves to go upstairs in my room and lay in my bed. That is my bare necessities.

If Mowgli can live with just the “Bare Necessities,” so can I. For me that is my skateboard. I love to hop on my board, go to the skate park, and do tricks. It is one of the things that makes me happy. Also, when I go it helps me relax. When I am there, I meet so many people. So that is my Bare Necessity.

If Mowgli can live with just the “Bare Necessities,” so can I. For me that is my backyard. I love going in my backyard to shoot around. I practice my layups, foul shots, and jump shots. I always love to verse my dad in a one on one. My dad coaches me. I have a small patch of grass to lay on and fall asleep. When I am there, I am thinking about my basketball game on the weekend and how I’m going to play. My backyard is my Bare Necessity.

If Mowgli can live with just the “Bare Necessities,” so can I. For me, that is a charger. It is a charger because if a device dies, I go ballistic. A charger also helps me make my iPad stay up and running to text my friends. If I don’t have a charger I won’t be able to see my notifications, which is not ok. This is what my Bare Necessity is.

If Mowgli can live with just the “Bare Necessities,“ so can I. For me that is my brother! My baby brother is one thing I cannot live without. He is so funny and kind! He comes over to me and hits me. Then he wants me to chase him! Also, he likes to wipe Nutella and ice cream on me and then laugh. He is only one and a half! Most importantly, when I’m sad, he comes over and hugs and kisses me. It’s like he knows I need him, and I instantly feel better. This is just one of my “Bare Necessities,” my baby brother.

If Mowgli can live with just the “Bare Necessities,” so can I. For me, that is pickles. Pickles are my favorite food to eat. I could last two days with just eating pickles. When I eat pickles, they make me happy. I don’t think I can last a day without them! I never get bored of eating pickles. That is my bare necessity.

If Mowgli can live with just the “Bare Necessities,” so can I. For me that would be my bed. That would be because I have to have somewhere to sleep and when I wake up I don’t want to leave my bed. If I could, I would stay in bed all day. Also, my bed is so warm and cozy. That is why my “Bare Necessity” is my bed.

If Mowgli can live with just the “Bare Necessities,” so can I. For me, that is my family. I love hanging out with my family and playing board games. I would hate to spend the whole day with no connection to them and not seeing them. My sister always plays games with me and is willing to listen to every word I say. Without my family, I would have almost nothing because my parents give me so much. I am so grateful for my family and I do not know what I would do without them.
