The Rockaway Beautification Project

Dear Editor:

As a Rockaway resident, I’m always aware of my surroundings, as I’m sure most Rockaway residents are? So this is how we can change the narrative.

I have a dog and I remember when we had a garbage pail on every corner, when the garbage wasn’t all over the streets. What happened to those days? Don’t we have garbage men and women? Can’t they collect these pails? Or is it the job of the Parks Department? Whoever it is, I’m sure it wouldn’t be such a big deal to collect this trash with the rest of the garbage. I’m sure it would look and smell much better if we had such a thing. I know us dog parents and walkers would have a place to dispose of the dog s..t and other garbage in its proper place opposed to what we currently have!

The Beautification Project: is a community plan where we all can have an impact on our environment and the place we call home.

We have politicians. What are they doing because they’re not doing anything for us when it comes to the dirt and garbage all over our streets, or the condoms scattered all over the place. Some live here as well, don’t they? So why isn’t this one of their priorities? It seems to me this should be one of the most important things I would think! What are your views? I’d like to know!

I will say, out of the five boroughs, we have an abundance of police presence securing our streets, which I think never gets enough credit!  So, I’ll start by saying this should be an example on how to do your job well!

Hint, hint to our local politicians who seem to be asleep at the wheel. Time to wake up! Imagine what the Rockaways would look like without the men and women in blue.

We as a community, as the collective, will tackle the Rockaways one week at a time. Let’s change the narrative. This is our home, where people flock to from all over to come to our beaches as well as our restaurants and local stores.  This is a group effort. Let’s be the example!
