The Rocky Road to Rockaway

 The Rocky Road to Rockaway

Following community complaints about the shoddy job that was done to repave Cross Bay Blvd. in Broad Channel in November, the NYC Department of Transportation is back to doing it all over again.

After the last repaving job, neighbors found things such as plastic bottles paved into the street, potholes and after a few months, the paving job started to pull up in multiple areas. Councilwoman Joann Ariola responded to complaints and followed up with the DOT. It was discovered that the crew that did the job was a Highway Paving unit that is unfamiliar with residential paving requirements and did not follow protocol, so the job would need to be done over.

So, on Monday evening, April 21, milling began on the west side of Cross Bay Blvd. and continued on the east side into Wednesday night. Allegedly, a proper paving crew will return in two weeks to repave the road. In the meantime, drivers are advised to be patient and use caution when navigating Cross Bay Blvd. on the milled road, without traffic lanes.
