Birding for Beginners

On Saturday, February 1 at 10 a.m., head to the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge to learn how to become a birder! Join a ranger on this birding for beginners walk around West Pond. All skill levels welcomed; binoculars provided. Dress for the weather. Heavy rain/snow or wind chills below 25 degrees Fahrenheit will cancel this event.

 

Poseidon’s Prom

On Saturday, February 1 at 7 p.m., head to Connolly’s Bar (155 Beach 95th Street) for Poseidon’s Prom! Wear your best nautical prom look, enjoy art and music, raffles and more. $20 entrance at the door. Proceeds benefit Poseidon’s Parade in September.

 

The Life of Jacob Riis

On Sunday, February 2 at 2 p.m., head to the Ryan Visitor Center at Floyd Bennett Field and join a park ranger to examine the life and career of journalist and park advocate Jacob Riis and see why one of Gateway’s most visited sites is named in his honor.

 

Rockaway Republican Club Meeting

On Wednesday, February 5 at 7 p.m., head to the Breezy Point Catholic Club (204-10 Rock Point Blvd.) for the Republican club meeting. Featuring potential candidates like Curtis Sliwa and more.

 

D31 Resource Fair

On Tuesday, February 4 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., head to 1047 Beach 21st St. apartments to learn about events and resources available for local residents. For more info, call 718-527-4356

 

Rockaway Beach Civic Meeting

On Thursday. February 6 at 7 p.m., head to the Knights of Columbus upstairs meeting room (333 Beach 90th Street) for the monthly RBCA meeting featuring speakers from the NYC DOT and more.

 

VDay 5K and Half Marathon

On Saturday, February 8, Rockaway Track Club is hosting their Valentine’s 5K and Half Marathon. Registration and bib pickup at Healy’s Pub (108-07 Rockaway Beach Dr.) at 8 a.m. The races begin on the boardwalk at 9 a.m. Pre-register at www.Rockawaytc.org

 

Cat Adoption & Pet Food Drive

On Saturday, February 8 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., head to Assemblywoman Stacey Pheffer Amato’s office (95-16 Rockaway Beach Blvd.) for a cat adoption event and pet food drive with Noah’s Ark. Wet food, dry food and litter needed.

 

Cardio Punch

On Saturdays through May 3, at 11 a.m., head to the Far Rockaway Library (1637 Central Ave.) to join Gloria for this total-body, non-contact workout for all fitness levels.

 

Master Fitness™

On Mondays from 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m., head to RISE (58-03 Rockaway Beach Boulevard), as Ann Fosteris teaches a free 45-minute exercise class. All ages and fitness levels are welcome! Support provided by FRANC and Fund for the City of New York.

 

Core on the Floor

On Mondays from 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., head to RISE (58-03 Rockaway Beach Boulevard), as Ann Fosteris leads a free 30-minute class focusing on core and lower body. Participants should bring their own mats. All levels are welcome!

 

Bodyweight Circuit Training

On Tuesdays at 5 p.m., head to The B.R.I.D.G.E. (217 Beach 92nd Street) for a circuit training class that combines bodyweight resistance training and conditioning for a full-body workout. All levels welcome. Bring a mat.  First-come, first-served.

 

Cardio Punch

On Thursdays through May 1, at 6 p.m., head to the Arverne meeting room (312 Beach 54th Street) to join Gloria for this total-body, non-contact workout for all fitness levels.

 

Uplifted Dance Fitness

On Mondays and Tuesdays at 11 a.m., head to Redfern Community Center (1544 Hassock Street) for a free dance workout class with Miss Dawn.
