Rockaway Beach Civic Association

On Thursday, April 3 at 7 p.m., head to the Knights of Columbus (333 Beach 90th Street) upstairs room for the monthly Rockaway Beach Civic meeting. Hear from elected officials, NYPD and more.

 

Stargazing at Floyd Bennett Field

On Friday, April 4 at 8 p.m., head to Hangar Row next to the Community Garden at Floyd Bennett Field to join the Amateur Astronomers Association for free observing sessions! Event is 30 minutes after sunset. Cancelled if raining.

 

Bay Shore Cleanup

On Saturday, April 5 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., head to DeCosta Ave. and Beach 65th Street of the bay to join RISE for its first community shoreline cleanup of 2025! Community service hours available.

 

North Channel Bridge Cleanup

On Saturday, April 5 at 10 a.m., head to the red pavilion at the North Channel Bridge before Howard Beach to join Sadhana, for a monthly beach cleanup series, Project Prithvi! Gloves, garbage bags, and pickers will be provided. Cancelled if heavy rain.

 

Special Olympics Polar Plunge

On Saturday, April 5, NY Special Olympics is freezin’ for a reason on Beach 94th Street. Take the plunge to raise funds for Special Olympics. Day of registration from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. The plunge begins at 11 a.m. Pre-register and start fundraising at https://bit.ly/rockawayplunge

 

World Aquatic Animal Day

On Saturday, April 5 at 12 p.m., head to the Beach 94th Amphitheater to join the Urban Park Rangers to celebrate the existence of aquatic animals. Learn about the current threats to marine animals and what we can do to protect them.

 

Sports & Pokemon Card Trade Night

On Sunday, April 6 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., head to Tap That (111-04 Rockaway Beach Blvd.)  to buy/ sell/ trade cards and enjoy 30 beverages on tap! Hosted by 7th Inning Stretch.

 

Community Board 14

On Tuesday, April 8 at 7 p.m., head to the Knights of Columbus (333 Beach 90th Street) for the monthly CB14 meeting. Hear updates from the MTA on the new bus plan rollout, microgrids and more. To speak, sign up before the meeting begins.

On Wednesday, April 9 at 6:30 p.m., head to Waterside School (140 Beach 112th Street) for a membership meeting featuring NYPD, NYC Parks, DSNY and more.

 

Heart of Rockaway Civic Meeting

On Wednesday, April 9 at 7 p.m., head to St. John’s Baptist Church (7405 Rockaway Beach Blvd.) for The Heart of Rockaway Civic’s (Beach 59th to Beach 81st Street) meeting with updates from NYPD, DSNY, NYC Parks, Latoya Benjamin and more.

 

Rock School Discussion

Spring Marathon, Half & 5K

On Saturday, April 12, Rockaway Track Club is hosting its pring marathon, half marathon and 5K. Bibs, t-shirts and check in at 6:30 a.m. at the Beach 94th Amphitheater. Races begin at 8 a.m. Pre-register at www.Rockawaytc.org

 

Spring Thrift Sale

On Saturday, April 12 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., head to First Congregational Church (320 Beach 94th Street) for their spring thrift sale. New and used spring and summer clothing for $2, housewares, kitchenware, pocketbooks, shoes, knick-knacks, vintage and collectibles.

 

Art Exhibition: Noticin’

On weekends from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., head to the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge for Noticin’, an art exhibit joyfully exposing Jamaica Bay’s shoreline clutter.

 

Cardio Punch

On Saturdays through May 3, at 11 a.m., head to the Far Rockaway Library (1637 Central Ave.) to join Gloria for this total-body, non-contact workout for all fitness levels.

 

Chair Movement

Class

On Monday and Wednesdays at 10 a.m., head to Temple Beth-El (201 Beach 121st Street) for Chair Movement class, stretching and strengthening for your whole body and mind. Donation based.

 

Master Fitness™

On Mondays from 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m., head to RISE (58-03 Rockaway Beach Boulevard), as Ann Fosteris teaches a free 45-minute exercise class. All ages and fitness levels are welcome! Support provided by FRANC and Fund for the City of New York.

 

Core on the Floor

On Mondays from 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., head to RISE (58-03 Rockaway Beach Boulevard), as Ann Fosteris leads a free 30-minute class focusing on core and lower body. Participants should bring their own mats. All levels are welcome!

 

Cardio Punch

On Thursdays through May 1, at 6 p.m., head to the Arverne meeting room (312 Beach 54th Street) to join Gloria for this total-body, non-contact workout for all fitness levels.

 

Uplifted Dance Fitness

On Mondays and Tuesdays at 11 a.m., head to Redfern Community Center (1544 Hassock Street) for a free dance workout class with Miss Dawn.

 

Free Classes

Spring semester at the Peninsula Adult Leaning Center (92-25 Rockaway Beach Blvd.) begins April 14. GED Test Prep and Testing Center plus ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages). GED TESTING twice monthly. For more info, contact Peninsulalearning@gmail.com or 718-945-7058.
