Rock School Discussion

On Thursday, April 10 at 6 p.m., head to Queens Public Library at Far Rockaway (1637 Central Ave.) to learn more and share your ideas to reshape our education options in Rockaway that prioritizes the needs of our community. Visit rockschool.nyc for details.

 

Spring Marathon, Half & 5K

On Saturday, April 12, Rockaway Track Club is hosting its spring marathon, half marathon and 5K. Bibs, t-shirts and check in at 6:30 a.m. at the Beach 94th Amphitheater. Races begin at 8 a.m. Pre-register at Rockawaytc.org

 

Community Dune Planting

On Saturday, April 12 at 10 a.m., head to Beach 69th Street & Beach Front Road to join RISE for a community volunteer day, culminating in a celebration of the land and the water. Help clean the shoreline and plant native plants and shrubs as part of “Greater Rockaway” Coastal Resilience Plan.  Please dress accordingly. Students who are looking to do community service hours are encouraged to bring paperwork.

 

Jamaica Bay Park

Pals

On Saturday, April 12 at 10:30 a.m., head to the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge for Park Pals, a program designed to engage families with young children (ages 0-6 years old) in safe nature exploration. Enjoy Signs of Spring themed sensory activities, a read-aloud, and a spring scavenger hunt in the refuge led by a Park Ranger. Pre-registration is required via jbrpc.org/parkpals

 

Spring Thrift Sale

On Saturday, April 12 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., head to First Congregational Church (320 Beach 94th Street) for their spring thrift sale. New and used spring and summer clothing for $2, housewares, kitchenware, pocketbooks, shoes, knick-knacks, vintage and collectibles.

 

Full Pink Moon Hike

On Saturday, April 12 at 7:30 p.m., head to the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge to join a ranger on a moonlit hike around the Refuge. Learn about the traditional name for this moon and look for signs of the story it represents. All ages welcome. Flashlights and/or headlamps are recommended. Dress appropriately for the weather.

 

Tree Giveaway

On Sunday, April 13, head to RISE (58-03 Rockaway Beach Boulevard) for a free tree giveaway with the New York Restoration Project. Registration is required because supply is limited. Go to riserockaway.org and click on Events.

 

Total Body Conditioning

On Tuesday, April 15, head to RISE (58-03 Rockaway Beach Boulevard) for total body conditioning training with a combination of pilates and stretching elements, taught by certified group fitness instructor Nadia Ozcan, AFAA.

 

Spring Food Distribution

On Wednesday, April  16 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m., head to Councilwoman Joann Ariola’s office (114-12 Beach Channel Drive) for a food distribution of chicken, roasted potatoes and vegetables for 3-4 people. You must call 718-318-6411 to register.

 

Art Exhibition: Noticin’

On weekends from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., head to the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge for Noticin’, an art exhibit joyfully exposing Jamaica Bay’s shoreline clutter.

 

Cardio Punch

On Saturdays through May 3, at 11 a.m., head to the Far Rockaway Library (1637 Central Ave.) to join Gloria for this total-body, non-contact workout for all fitness levels.

 

Chair Movement Class

On Mondays and Wednesdays at 10 a.m., head to Temple Beth-El (201 Beach 121st Street) for Chair Movement class, stretching and strengthening for your whole body and mind. Donation based.

 

Cardio Punch

On Thursdays through May 1, at 6 p.m., head to the Arverne meeting room (312 Beach 54th Street) to join Gloria for this total-body, non-contact workout for all fitness levels.

 

Uplifted Dance

Fitness

On Mondays and Tuesdays at 11 a.m., head to Redfern Community Center (1544 Hassock Street) for a free dance workout class with Miss Dawn.
