NYC Dippers Club

New Year’s Dip

On Thursday, January 1 at 10 a.m., head to Beach 67th Street to join the New York Dippers Club for a dip into the Atlantic Ocean to welcome the New Year.

 

Fort Tilden New Year’s Day Walk

On Thursday, January 1 at 11 a.m., head to the little church at Fort Tilden just inside the Beach 169th Street entrance for a New Year’s Day hike along the beach to the hawk watch platform at Battery Harris. Bring snacks and water.

 

Birding for Beginners

On Saturday, January 3 at 10:30 a.m., head to the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge for a birding for beginners walk around West Pond. All skill levels welcomed; binoculars provided. Dress for the weather.

 

Irish Music & Dance Event

On Sunday, January 4 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., head to the Knights of Columbus (333 Beach 90th Street) for Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eirann’s Irish culture event. ‘Tis the Season to Darty

On Sunday, January 4 at 2 p.m., St. Francis de Sales on Beach 129th Street invites all college-age students for a special Mass and a Christmas darty (day party) in the small hall to follow.

 

A Taste of Natural Healing

On Monday, January 5 at 10 a.m., head to RISE (58-03 Rockaway Beach Blvd.) as Alexandra G. Taggart, certified instructor of Dragon’s Way Qigong, leads a thirty-minute class. The Four Energy Gates is a practice to awaken the body’s energy flow. Think almost like an acupuncture treatment, but you are the practitioner!

On Monday, January 5 at 11 a.m., head to RISE (58-03 Rockaway Beach Blvd.) as Ann Fosteris teaches a FREE exercise class. For neighbors of all ages and fitness levels.

 

Core on the Floor

On Monday, January 5 at 11:45 a.m., head to RISE (58-03 Rockaway Beach Blvd.) for a FREE thirty-minute class, led by Ann Fosteris, that focuses on core and lower body. Participants should bring their own mats. All levels are welcome!

 

Winter Bird Walk

On Saturday, January 10 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., head to RISE (RISE, 58-03 Rockaway Beach Blvd.) to join RISE and NYC Plover Project for a free winter birding tour of Edgemere! See sea ducks, grebes, loons, Northern gannets, and other winter birds on the shoreline. All levels welcome.

 

Winter Wander Walk Around Jamaica Bay

On Sunday, January 11 at 11 a.m., head to the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge the wander whiles it’s a winter wonderland! Explore how plants and animals at the park survive and adapt to the winter. Open to all ages. Dress for the conditions.

 

Helping Lost Animals 101

On Sunday, January 11 at 12 p.m., head to Arverne East Welcome Center (190 Beach 44th Street) for a workshop on Helping Lost Animals 101.  Zion and Sasha’s Missions will lead a workshop on how to help lost animals with mock demos on how to use carriers and other tools.

 

Community Board 14

On Tuesday, January 13 art 7 p.m., head to the Bayswater Jewish Center (23-55 Healy Ave.) for the monthly Community Board 14 meeting. To speak, sign up before the meeting begins.

 

Free GED and ESOL Classes
