RB Civic Meeting

On Thursday, February 5 at 7 p.m., head to the Knights of Columbus (333 Beach 90th Street) for the next Rockaway Beach Civic Meeting. Guest speaker from the NYC Department of Transportation.

 

Signs of Spring Hike

On Saturday, March 7 at 10 a.m., head to Beach 44th and the boardwalk to join the Urban Park Rangers for a walk in the Arverne East Nature Preserve while looking for signs of blossoming flowers and birds. Learn about the plants and animals that call the preserve a home.

 

Rockaway St. Patrick’s Day Parade

On Saturday, March 7 at 1 p.m., line up on Newport Ave. or Rockaway Beach Blvd. as the 51st Annual Queens County St. Patrick’s Day parade rolls through town. Parade begins at Beach 130th and Newport Ave., turns down Beach 116th Street and continues down Rockaway Beach Blvd. to around Beach 102nd Street.

 

Birding for Beginners

On Sunday, March 8 at 10:30 a.m., head to the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge to join a park ranger on a late winter birding walk around the West Pond. All ages and skill levels are welcome. Binoculars will be provided. Dress for the weather conditions.

 

A Taste of Natural Healing

On Monday, March 9 at 10 a.m., head to RISE (58-03 Rockaway Beach Blvd.) as Alexandra G. Taggart, certified instructor of Dragon’s Way Qigong, leads a FREE thirty-minute class. The Four Energy Gates is a practice to awaken the body’s energy flow. Think almost like an acupuncture treatment, but you are the practitioner!

 

Zumba!

On Monday, March 9 at 11 a.m., head to RISE (58-03 Rockaway Beach Blvd.) for a free Zumba class led by LaDeidre Smith from Rockaway YMCA. Enjoy an aerobic fitness workout method that involves cardio and Latin-inspired dance.

Meeting

On Tuesday, March 10 at 7 p.m., head to the Knights of Columbus (333 Beach 90th Street) for the monthly CB14 meeting. Updates on Addabbo Health, Recycling Infrastructure Act and Economic Development and Environmental Committee reports. To speak, sign up before the meeting begins.

 

Body Weight Circuit Training

On Tuesdays at 7 p.m., head to the Sorrentino Recreation Center (18-48 Cornaga Ave.) for a free body weight circuit training class with Edith. Membership not required. Ongoing through May.

 

Rockaway Game Club

On Wednesdays from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., head to Bungalow Bar (377 Beach 92nd Street) to join Rockaway Game Club for a night of games! $10 for first-timers, $5 for return adventurers. All ages welcome. Stop by anytime. Follow @rockawaygameclub for more!

 

Cardio Punch

On Saturdays at 11 a.m., head the Far Rockaway Library (1637 Central Ave.) to join Gloria for Cardio Punch, a total body workout for all levels. Punch to the rhythms of motivating music. Through April.

 

Seaside Senior Activities

Seaside Older Adult Center (320 Beach 94th Street) hosts exercise classes for those 60+. New members can join, bring ID. Aerobics with Anna every Monday at 11 a.m. Strength Exercise/Movement with Tommy every Tuesday and Thursday at 11:15 a.m. Tai Chi for arthritis with Arthur every Wednesday at 11 a.m. Chair Yoga with Janelle every Friday at 11 a.m. Plus parties, trips, breakfast and lunch.
