Park Pals with JBRPC

On Sunday, March 15 at 10 a.m., head to Building 135 in Floyd Bennett Field, Brooklyn to join JBRPC for Park Pals, an early childhood family program for children ages 0–6 and their caregivers. Celebrate the mighty menhaden, a small but powerful fish that plays a big role in keeping our oceans and bays healthy. Families will enjoy hands-on indoor activities to learn about these amazing fish, such as creating shimmering fish-scale collages, exploring sensory bins inspired by the sea, and listening to a fishy read-aloud that brings the underwater world to life. Then head out for a short shoreline walk, to look for signs of fish life, explore shells and seaweed washed ashore.

 

A Taste of Natural Healing

On Monday, March 16 at 10 a.m., head to RISE (58-03 Rockaway Beach Blvd.) as Alexandra G. Taggart, certified instructor of Dragon’s Way Qigong, leads a FREE thirty-minute class. The Four Energy Gates is a practice to awaken the body’s energy flow. Think almost like an acupuncture treatment, but you are the practitioner!

 

Zumba!

On Monday, March 16 at 11 a.m., head to RISE (58-03 Rockaway Beach Blvd.) for a free Zumba class led by LaDeidre Smith from Rockaway YMCA. Enjoy an aerobic fitness workout method that involves cardio and Latin-inspired dance.

 

Backpack to Briefcase

On Monday, March 16 rom 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., head to the Teens Library (20-02 Cornaga Ave.) for a professional development experience. Learn how to tie a tie, get professional headshots, enjoy real talk teen interviews, workshops, a book signing and more.

 

Spring Stargazing

On Friday, March 20 at 6:45 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., head to The Garden by the By (480 Beach 43rd Street) to welcome the spring with the Amateur Astronomers Association to view the night sky.

 

Body Weight Circuit Training

On Tuesdays at 7 p.m., head to the Sorrentino Recreation Center (18-48 Cornaga Ave.) for a free body weight circuit training class with Edith. Membership not required. Ongoing through May.

 

Rockaway Game Club

On Wednesdays from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., head to Bungalow Bar (377 Beach 92nd Street) to join Rockaway Game Club for a night of games! $10 for first-timers, $5 for return adventurers. All ages welcome. Stop by anytime. Follow @rockawaygameclub for more!

 

Cardio Punch

On Saturdays at 11 a.m., head the Far Rockaway Library (1637 Central Ave.) to join Gloria for Cardio Punch, a total body workout for all levels. Punch to the rhythms of motivating music. Through April.

 

Seaside Senior Activities

Seaside Older Adult Center (320 Beach 94th Street) hosts exercise classes for those 60+. New members can join, bring ID. Aerobics with Anna every Monday at 11 a.m. Strength Exercise/Movement with Tommy every Tuesday and Thursday at 11:15 a.m. Tai Chi for arthritis with Arthur every Wednesday at 11 a.m. Chair Yoga with Janelle every Friday at 11 a.m. Plus parties, trips, breakfast and lunch. Aging Mastery Program

Kingsborough Community College is hosting a free virtual program for those 50 and older on Tuesdays from April 21 through June 16 from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Topics on navigating longer lives, exercise & you, sleep, healthy eating and hydration, financial fitness, medication management, advance planning, healthy relationships, fall prevention, community engagement and more!
