Belle Harbor Beach Cleanup

On Saturday, May 2 from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., head to the Beach 134th Street beach wall to join Belle Harbor Property Owners Association  and NYC Parks for a beach clean up. Tools and garbage bags provided. T-shirts and community service credits available.

 

Rockaway and Jamaica Bay Bike Tour

On Saturday, May 2 at 10 a.m., head to Beach 109th and the boardwalk to join NYC Parks Urban Park Rangers for a bike ride around Jamaica Bay. Recommended for ages 8 and up. Bring your own bike and helmet.

 

Denim Day & Missing Children’s Awareness Event

On Saturday, May 2 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., head to the Addabbo Health Center (6200 Beach Channel Drive) for a day to bring awareness to domestic violence, missing children and more. Experience workshops, hear from speakers, enjoy food and giveaways, self defense lessons and more.

 

20th Annual Earth Day

On Saturday, May 2 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m., head to RISE (58-03 Rockaway Beach Blvd.) to enjoy free activities and programs for children of all ages! Live music, face painting, free giveaways, cooking demonstrations, plantings, fire safety, water testing, and arts and crafts.

 

Blind Birder Bird-a-thon

On Sunday, May 3 at 11 a.m., head to the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge to listen for as many bird species as possible, in collaboration with Birdability. All experience levels welcome, particularly people who are blind, partially sighted, or have low vision. Sunscreen recommended, binoculars available.

 

Spring Makers Market

On Sunday, May 3 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., head to the Rockaway Beach Surf Club (302 Beach 87th Street) to shop from local vendors. Plus, enjoy food and drinks.

 

One Act Play Readings

On Sunday, May 3, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., head to the Rockaway Theatre Company’s John Gilleece Theater at Fort Tilden to hear readings of original works from RTC’s One-Act Play Writing Workshop! Actors will take roles and dramatically read all new short plays or selected scenes created by writers in the class taught by author/playwright/novelist Jonathon Kravetz. Free.

 

A Taste of Natural Healing

On Monday, May 4 at 10 a.m., head to RISE (58-03 Rockaway Beach Blvd.) as Alexandra G. Taggart, certified instructor of Dragon’s Way Qigong, leads a FREE thirty-minute class. The Four Energy Gates is a practice to awaken the body’s energy.

 

Zumba

On Monday, May 4 at 11 a.m., head to RISE (58-03 Rockaway Beach Blvd.) for a FREE Zumba class, led by LaDeidre Smith. Enjoy an aerobic fitness workout method that involves cardio and Latin-inspired dance!

On Thursday, May 7 at 7 p.m., head to the Knights of Columbus (333 Beach 90th Street) for the monthly RBCA meeting, featuring guest speaker Elizabeth Walsack of NYC Parks, and others.

 

Body Weight Circuit Training

On Tuesdays at 7 p.m., head to the Sorrentino Recreation Center (18-48 Cornaga Ave.) for a free body weight circuit training class with Edith. Ongoing through September.

On Saturdays at 11 a.m., head the Beach 60th boardwalk to join Gloria for Cardio Punch, a total body workout for all levels. Punch to the rhythms of motivating music. Through September.
