Women’s Surf Film Festival

The Women’s Surf Film Festival has begun. The remainder of the film fest takes place at The Rockaway Hotel on Sept. 6, 8 and 9, with the final film screening on September 9 at 7 p.m. at the Rockaway Beach Surf Club (302 Beach 87th Street). For full details, see: www.womenssurffilmfestival.com/

Sounds of Freedom Concert

On Friday, September 8 at 6:30 p.m., head to Tribute Park on Beach 116th and the bay for a concert featuring patriotic music by the Queens Symphony Orchestra. Sponsored by Councilwoman Joann Ariola.

Honey Fest

On Saturday, September 9 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., head to Beach 106th and the boardwalk for NYC Honey Fest. Tastings, marketplace, beekeepers, food, face painters and more. See NYCHoneyweek.org for more info.

Richie Allen Surf Classic

On Saturday, September 10, head to Beach 91st Street for the Richie Allen Memorial Surf Classic. Surf contest for kids ages 10-16, boogie boarding, DJ, food, prizes and giveaways. Sign ups begin at 8 a.m. and the contest starts at 9 a.m. A memorial paddle out will follow.

9/11 Ceremony

On Monday, September 11 at 8:30 a.m., head to Tribute Park on Beach 116th and the bay for a ceremony to commemorate the 22nd anniversary of the attacks of September 11, 2001. The names of the fallen will be read as neighbors place roses. Aerial Acoustics and Chazmond Peacock will perform.

Community Board 14

On Tuesday, September 12 at 7:15 p.m., head to the Knights of Columbus (333 Beach 90th Street) for the monthly CB14 meeting. There will be a presentation on a new transportation option, budget reports and a Parks Committee report on the Tribute Park mosaic. Sign up before the meeting for public speaking.

Poseidon Parade

Save the date! Poseidon Parade takes place Saturday, September 16 at 1 p.m. on Beach 106th and struts down the boardwalk to Beach 96th. Sign up and participate or watch from the sidelines. For more details, see PoseidonsParade.com

JASA Weekly Arts

On Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., head to Beach 60th and Rockaway Freeway to listen to live music and buy from local farmers and vendors.

Yoga on the Beach

On Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8:30 a.m., head to Beach 102nd for yoga on the beach with Soupy Campbell.

Chair Movement Class

On Mondays and Wednesdays at 10 a.m., head to Temple Beth-El on Beach 121st Street for a Chair Movement Class led by Christine Walker. Donation based.

Chair Yoga

On Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m., head to RISE (58-03 Rockaway Beach Blvd.) for a free chair yoga class led by certified yoga instructor Ruth Graves. Beginners to seasoned practitioners are welcome.
