Plants as Medicine Workshop

On Saturday, September 16, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., head to  Beach 60th Street & Rockaway Freeway, where Nicole Brooks from Pure Earth Magic will host a workshop on how to use plants as medicine.  In this case, mugwort! There will be two sessions: 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., and 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Free and open to all. Register at www.riserockaway.org/rise/events/

 

International Coastal Cleanup

On Saturday, September 16 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., head to Beach 59th Street and the boardwalk to join RISE for the annual International Coastal Cleanup in partnership with the American Littoral Society. All ages welcome. All trash collected will be entered into the national database, which goes to help establish legislation to reduce trash along our shores. Students can receive community service hours. Rain or shine.

 

Poseidon Parade

On Saturday, September 16 at 1 p.m., head to Beach 106th in your nautical best and strut your stuff down the boardwalk to Beach 95th street for the Poseidon Parade!  Sign up and participate or watch from the sidelines. For more details, see www.PoseidonsParade.com

 

Rockaway Makers Market

On Sunday, September 17 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., head to the Arverne Cinema on Beach 72nd Street to buy goods from local vendors, plus enjoy live music and Jamaican food.

Half Marathon & 5K

On Saturday, September 23 at 8 a.m., Rockaway Track Club hosts a Half Marathon and 5K starting at Beach 94th Street.  Registration and bib pickup at 7 a.m. or register in advance at www.rockawaytc.org/

 

Dog Parade

On Sunday, September 24, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., head to the Beach 108th hockey rink and bring your furry friend dressed in a doggy costume for the 2nd Annual Dog Parade. Meet at 10 a.m. around the grassy area at Beach 108 to get their parade badge and goodie bag. Then, at 11 a.m., the Parade kicks off walking to Beach 95th Street. Dogs must be leashed.

 

Cardio Punch

On Saturdays at 11 a.m., head to the boardwalk at Beach 60th Street for this total body, non-contact workout fit for all levels. Punch, hook, and kick to motivating, high-energy music that progress into heart-pumping combinations.

 

Market Street @ Beach 60th

On Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., head to Beach 60th and Rockaway Freeway to listen to live music and buy from local farmers and vendors.

 

Hangar B Open House

On Sundays through September 30, at 1 p.m., head to Hangar B at Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn to join a Park Ranger for a tour of Hangar B and the aircraft inside, which are part of Floyd Bennett Field’s aviation history.

 

Yoga on the Beach

On Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8:30 a.m., head to Beach 102nd for yoga on the beach with Soupy Campbell.

 

Chair Movement Class

On Mondays and Wednesdays at 10 a.m., head to Temple Beth-El on Beach 121st Street for a Chair Movement Class led by Christine Walker. Donation based.

 

Chair Yoga

On Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m., head to RISE (58-03 Rockaway Beach Blvd.) for a free chair yoga class led by certified yoga instructor Ruth Graves. Beginners to seasoned practitioners are welcome.
