Pollinator Festival

On Saturday, October 7 at 10 a.m., head to Building 1 in Fort Tilden to join the National Park Service and partners for a festival celebrating monarch butterflies and other pollinators like moths, bees, and birds! Fun for adults and kids alike.

 

QRP 5K Run/Walk

On Saturday, October 7 at 11 a.m., head to Beach 90th Street for Queens Royal Priest Hood, Inc’s 6th Annual B-Cauze 5K Walk/Run. Register at 10 a.m. The run/walk goes to Beach 17th Street. Run or walk for any cause that’s important to you.

 

Fort and Dunes Hike

On Saturday, October 7 at 12 p.m., head to Building 1 (across from horse corrals) in Fort Tilden to join a Park Ranger on a guided nature walk on trails nestled between dunes and maritime forests and lear n about how this site has defended us in the past and how it continues to do so today. 2-mile walk.

Dog Parade

On Sunday, October 8 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., head to the Beach 108th hockey rink and bring your furry friend dressed in a doggy costume for the 2nd Annual Dog Parade. Meet at 11 a.m. around the grassy area at Beach 108th to get their parade badge and goodie bag then at noon., the Parade kicks off, walking to Beach 95th Street. Dogs must be leashed.

 

Cat Adoption Event

On Sunday, October 8 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., head to 7219 Catamaran Way on Beach 73rd in Arverne to see kittens up for adoption from Itty Bitty City Kitties. Fill out an application in advance at www.ittybittycitykitties.org

 

A Rockaway Revue: Vaudeville Revived!

On Saturday, October 7 at 6 p.m. head down to the big blue house at 116-16 Rockaway Beach Blvd. as the Rockaway Times’ own Enchantress Shane Kulman and Dan Guarino present “A Rockaway Revue: Vaudeville Revived!” Done live in the open air, this amazing and fun variety show will feature performances from improv to comedy to music, mime, and dog acts. JASA Weekly Arts

On Thursdays at 10 a.m., adults 60+ are welcome to JASA Rockaway Park Older Adult Center (106-20 Shore Front Parkway) for weekly painting/arts and crafts. Let your creativity be free! To RSVP and for more details, call: 718-634-3044.

 

Cardio Punch

On Saturdays at 11 a.m., head to the boardwalk at Beach 60th Street for this total body, non-contact workout fit for all levels. Punch, hook, and kick to motivating, high-energy music that progress into heart-pumping combinations.

 

Market Street @ Beach 60th

On Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., head to Beach 60th and Rockaway Freeway to listen to live music and buy from local farmers and vendors.

 

Chair Movement Class

On Mondays and Wednesdays at 10 a.m., head to Temple Beth-El on Beach 121st Street for a Chair Movement Class led by Christine Walker. Donation based.

 

Chair Yoga

On Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m., head to RISE (58-03 Rockaway Beach Blvd.) for a free chair yoga class led by certified yoga instructor Ruth Graves. Beginners to seasoned practitioners are welcome.

Stenciling Workshop

Rockaway Artists Alliance offers a Stenciling Workshop for children ages 5-12 on Saturday, October 7, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. in Building T7, Fort Tilden. Admission includes all materials to make your own felt banner using stencils. Register at www.RockawayArtistsAlliance.org . $15 pre-register/$20 cash at door. RAA members – $5 discount. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

 

Daffodil Giveaway

On Saturday, October 7, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., don’t miss out on New Yorkers for Parks 2023 Daffodil Project, a citywide living memorial, stewardship opportunity, and catalyst for transformative investment in our beloved parks and open spaces. A living memorial to the victims of 9/11 and the largest civic effort in city history, the Daffodil Project gives out bulbs for free to plant in public spaces across all five boroughs. RISE (58-03 Rockaway Beach Blvd.) will be hosting one of the Queens distribution sites. If you have not reserved your free daffodil bulbs, the unclaimed ones will be distributed on a first-come-first-serve basis.

 

Foraging Tour with “Wildman” Steve Brill

On Saturday, October 7, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., “Wildman” Steve Brill will lead a session on plant identification, the natural habitat of the Rockaways, and all the best wild foods of the seashore. This event is FREE and will happen rain or shine. If the weather is bad, we will move indoors. Register at www.riserockaway.org .


Raptorama!

On Sunday, October 15 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., head to the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge to learn all about the hawks and owls of Jamaica Bay. See some of these amazing raptors during a live demonstration and go on walks with experts to get a look at hawk species flying south for the winter.
