Sandy Book Signing

On Thursday, October 27 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., head to the Rockaway Hotel on Beach 108th for a book signing featuring author Marty Ingram, former chief of the Point Breeze Fire Department, who penned a book about his experience with Hurricane Sandy, “Flood, Fire and a Superstorm.”

 

Hurricane Sandy Remembrance

On Thursday, October 27 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., head to the Rockaway Hotel on Beach 108th to join the Queens Chamber of Commerce, community partners and elected officials for a commemoration of the 10th anniversary of Sandy. Free admission. Appetizers served. Pre-register at: www.queenschamber.org/events

 

BCVFD Haunted House

Starting Thursday, October 27 through Halloween, head to the Broad Channel Volunteer Fire Department (15 Noel Road) to experience some hauntings at their annual haunted house. Open 8:30 p.m. – 10:30 p.m. Thursday, and 7:30 p.m. – 11:30 p.m. from Friday through Monday. Tickets are $15 or $50 for groups of 4. Must be 13 or older to enter without supervision.

 

Knights of Columbus Halloween Bash

On Friday, October 28 from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., put on a costume and head to the Knights (333 Beach 90th) for their Halloween bash featuring live music from The Knobs, light bites and more. $50 a ticket can be purchased in advance or at the door.

 

Rockaway Market Street

On Saturday, October 29 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., head under the elevated A train track at Beach 60th for an outdoor market including vendors such as: Blacksmith’s Breads, Edgemere Farm, Horman’s Best Pickles, Mushroom Queens, Rockaway Soda, Saratoga Peanut Butter Company, and more! Live music.

 

Hurricane Sandy Vigil

On Saturday, October 29, at 1 p.m., head to the Simbo residence at 66-20 Almeda Ave to join Rockaway Women for Progress and New York Communities for Change for a vigil on the 10th Anniversary of Hurricane Sandy honoring the victims that did not survive and hearing stories from impacted residents.

 

Bayswater Park Shoreline Cleanup

On Saturday, October 29, in honor of the 10th anniversary of Sandy, from 10 a.m. to noon, head to Bayswater Park at 701 Bay 32nd Street in the large field to join for a cleanup for the shoreline.

 

Native Seagrass Plantings

On Saturday, October 29, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., head to Bay View at Bayfield Ave and Beach 69th to help plant native seagrass plantings to help protect the park.

 

Riis Park: Are You Afraid of the Park

On Sunday, October 30 at 6 p.m., head to Bay 5 (west of the Bathhouse) at Riis Park, gather around the campfire and help craft an eerie Gateway tale based on photography of real occurrences and phenomena that happened in the park. All ages are welcome. Bring a towel or blanket to sit on the sand. Dress for the weather. Costumes or scary attire encouraged! Rain will cancel the event.

 

RBAF Halloween Treasure Hunt

On Sunday, October 30, join Rockaway Beach Autism Families on Beach 96th for a Halloween treasure hunt! Come dressed in your costume (encouraged, not required), and collect the most gold coins to win the coveted treasure. Blue buckets and treats will be given out for trick-o-treaters to support autism awareness

 

Larry Racioppo’s “Sandy Diary” Reception

On Mondays through Fridays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. head to the RISE Center (58-03 Rockaway Beach Blvd) to view Larry’s photo exhibit on Hurricane Sandy. Masks required inside RISE.
