MTA Jobs Event

On Thursday, November 16 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., head to the Rockaway YMCA (207 Beach 73rd Street) for an information section on MTA jobs, mainly apprenticeship construction training. For those 18+ with a high school diploma or equivalent.

 

Thanksgiving Half Marathon or 5K

On Saturday, November 18, the Rockaway Track Club is hosting a half marathon and 5K. Day-of registration begins at 7:30 a.m. at Healy’s Pub on Beach 108th Street. The races start at 9 a.m. on the boardwalk. To pre-register, head to Rockawaytc.org

 

Broad Channel America Park Cleanup

On Saturday, November 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., head to Broad Channel American Park at W 2nd Rd. to join JBRPC for a cleanup of debris around the park. Gloves, bags, and tools will be provided. Volunteers are encouraged to wear weather-appropriate clothing and sturdy, closed-toe shoes, and bring their own water and sunscreen. Rain or shine. Questions? Email info@jbrpc.org.

 

St. Camillus Christmas Boutique

On Saturday, November 18 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday, November 19 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., head to St. Camillus Springman Hall (180 Beach 100th Street) to get a head start on holiday shopping with gifts from local vendors.

 

Winter Surfing & Wellness Event

On Saturday, November 18 at 11 a.m., head to the Rockaway Beach Surf Club (302 Beach 87th Street) for a day of Yoga, a winter surfing panel & Q&A and brunch and tarot readings. Donation based.

 

Cat Adoption Event

On Saturday, November 18 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., head to Assemblywoman Pheffer Amato’s office at 95-16 Rockaway Beach Blvd. to adopt a cat, learn about volunteer opportunities with local rescues or make a donation.

 

RISE Thanksgiving Feast

On Saturday, November 18 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.,  head to RISE (58-03 Rockaway Beach Blvd.) for a free Thanksgiving meal prepared by local Rockaway partners: Batesy’s BBQ, Cassey’s Cookies & Cobblers, Cuisine by Claudette, Goody’s BBQ Chicken & Ribs, La Cevicheria, Rockaway Beach Bakery, Rockaway Food Initiative. Belle Harbor Property Owners Association

On Tuesday, November 21 at 7 p.m., head to the Belle Harbor Yacht Club (533 Beach 126th) to hear from zoning expert Paul Graziano about the mayor’s City of Yes zoning plan.

 

Cardio Punch

On Saturdays at 11 a.m., head to the boardwalk at Beach 60th Street for this total body, non-contact workout. Punch, hook, and kick to motivating, high-energy music that progress into heart-pumping combinations.

 

Hangar B Open House

On Sundays through Nov. 26, at 1 p.m., head to Hangar B at Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn to tour the dozens of restored aircrafts currently housed in this former Naval Air Station Hangar and discover the many historic aviation firsts that happened right here at Floyd Bennett Field.

 

Master Fitness™

On Mondays from 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m., head to RISE (58-03 Rockaway Beach Blvd.) as Ann Fosteris leads this free fitness class. All ages and fitness levels welcome.

 

Core on the Floor

On Mondays from 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., head to RISE (58-03 Rockaway Beach Blvd.) for a free 30-minute class focusing on core and lower body and led by Ann Fosteris of Fitness to You. Participants should bring their own mats. All levels welcome!

 

Chair Yoga

On Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m., head to RISE (58-03 Rockaway Beach Blvd.) as Ruth Graves, certified yoga instructor, teaches a FREE chair yoga class. All levels welcome.
