Let’s Get Vaccinated

On Thursday, February 22 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., head to Queens Public Library Far Rockaway Swing Space (1003 Beach 20th Street) for assistance for older adults to get flu and Covid vaccines. RISE has a team of trained Community Health Workers who are coordinating vaccine appointments for local residents. See them at the RISE table in the library. Also, order your free at-home COVID-19 test kits at https://special.usps.com/testkits .

Jamaica Bay Winter Wander

On Friday, February 23 at 10:30 a.m., head to the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge to wander with a Park Ranger while it’s a winter wonderland! Explore the trails and learn how plants and animals at the Refuge survive and adapt to winter. This is an all-weather event, so dress for the conditions.

Breezy Point Tip

Cleanup

On Saturday, February 24 at 10 a.m., head to the 222nd Street Fishing Lot in Breezy Point to join Jamaica Bay Wildlife and New York City Plover Project to help clean up the Breezy Point tip area to prepare for the 2023 Piping plover nesting season! All cleanup supplies (trash bags, gloves, grabbers) will be provided. Severe weather conditions will cancel this event. For questions, call the refuge at (718) 318-4340.

Full Snow Moon Hike

On Saturday, February 24 at 5:30 p.m., head to the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge for a full moon hike. Hear about a traditional name for this moon and look for signs of weather it represents. All ages welcome. Dress for the conditions. Reservations are required, please call (718) 318-4340 to reserve your space.

100th Precinct Community Council

Parade Day 5K and Half Marathon

On Saturday, March 2 at 8 a.m., head to St. Rose of Lima (130 Beach 84th) to register or pick up your bib for the half marathon or 5K. The runs begin at 9:30 a.m. on Beach 85th Street and the Boardwalk. Pre-register at Rockawaytc.org

Spring Bird Walk

On Saturday, March 2 at 10 a.m., head to RISE (58-03 Rockaway Beach Blvd.) to join RISE and the NYC Plover Project for a bird walk until noon. Binoculars will be provided.

Rockway St. Patrick’s Day Parade

Save the date! On Saturday, March 2 at 1 p.m., line up from Beach 130th and Newport Avenue to Beach 116th, or Beach 116th to Beach 101st Street and Rockaway Beach Blvd. to watch the Rockaway St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

Cardio Punch

On Saturdays at 11 a.m., head to Seaside Library (116-15 Rockaway Beach Blvd.)  to join Gloria for this total-body, non-contact workout for all fitness levels.
