Voting: It’s Their Future

 Voting: It’s Their Future

Dear Editor:

This November will bring us the biggest mayoral election New York City has seen in decades – one that could profoundly impact public safety, opportunity, and the American Dream. It is important that our young adults participate.

With that in mind, the Rockaway Republican Club (RRC) will conduct voter registration drives this Saturday, August 2, in multiple locations. They will also distribute absentee ballot applications for college students (and snowbirds) who will be out of town on Election Day. If you are not going to be in the five boroughs on November 4, you must apply for an absentee ballot. It will be mailed to you at an address of your choosing.

For those who need an absentee ballot, I strongly suggest that you apply early and vote early. The one time I was not in Rockaway for Election Day, I mailed my ballot with a few weeks to go. The following January, I got a letter from the Board of Elections that they received my ballot late. I don’t know if it was the Board or the USPS that fouled up, but my vote did not count. We cannot afford to have any Rockaway resident’s vote lost in 2025.

On Saturday, the RRC will be at the stores in Breezy Point and on Beach 129th Street. In 2024, the RRC registered more than 60 young adults. We can do even better in 2025.

Please get your young adults registered to vote. Don’t let them fall for the “your vote doesn’t matter” excuse. It is their future at stake. And ours.
