Beach Opening Ceremony

On Friday, May 22 at 11 a.m., head to the Beach 94th Street Amphitheater for the beach opening ceremony with NYC Parks, elected officials and more.

 

Hangar B Tour

On Saturday, May 23 at 10:30 a.m., head to Floyd Bennett Field to learn about the aviation history and explore restored aircrafts on a ranger-led tour of a historic airplane hangar.

 

Memorial Day Parade

On Monday, May 25, the American Legion hosts the Memorial Day Parade and Ceremonies in honor of the late Mike Honan. It begins with a 10:30 a.m. Mass at St. Francis de Sales on Beach 129th Street, followed by a ceremony outside by the Four Chaplain’s monument. At around 11:30 a.m., the parade will head down Rockaway Beach Blvd. to Memorial Circle on Beach 121st Street for a ceremony at around noon. The parade then continues to the boardwalk at Beach 120th Street to Beach 94th Street for a concluding ceremony at the Doughboy Monument on Rockaway Beach Blvd.

 

Draw Night for Adults

On Thursday, May 28 at 6 p.m., head to Seaside Library (116-15 Rockaway Beach Blvd.) for a drawing class for adults. Supplies will be provided but feel free to bring your own.

 

Black Birders Week Celebration

On Saturday, May 30 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., head to the Arverne East Nature Preserve at Beach 56th Place to join NYC Plover Project for a bird watching tour. Then meet at The Garden by the Bay on Beach 43rd Street for lunch, nature-based activities, raffles and giveaway. Free, open to the public, perfect for families. Disco Divas

On Saturday, May 30 at 2 p.m., head to Seaside Library (116-15 Rockaway Beach Blvd.) for a free performance by vocalist Mitch Matlock. Enjoy an afternoon of ‘70s disco hits.

 

Body Weight Circuit Training

On Tuesdays at 7 p.m., head to the Sorrentino Recreation Center (18-48 Cornaga Ave.) for a free body weight circuit training class with Edith. Ongoing through September.

 

Chair Yoga

On Wednesday and Fridays at 3 p.m., head to Seaside Library (116-15 Rockaway Beach Blvd.) for a free chair yoga class with Dana Humphrey. Wear something comfortable.

 

Rockaway Game Club

On Wednesdays from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., head to Bungalow Bar (377 Beach 92nd St.) to join Rockaway Game Club for a night of games! $10 for first-timers, $5 for return adventurers. All ages. Stop by anytime. Follow @rockawaygameclub for more!

 

Cardio Punch

On Saturdays at 11 a.m., head the Beach 60th boardwalk to join Gloria for Cardio Punch, a total body workout for all levels. Punch to the rhythms of motivating music. Through September.

 

Seaside Senior Activities

Seaside Older Adult Center (320 Beach 94th Street) hosts exercise classes for those 60+. New members can join, bring ID. Broadway Zumba with Melissa every Monday at 10 a.m. Aerobics with Anna every Monday at 11 a.m. Strength Exercise/Movement with Tommy every Tuesday and Thursday at 11:15 a.m. Tai Chi for arthritis with Arthur every Wednesday at 11 a.m. Chair Yoga with Janelle every Friday at 11 a.m. Plus parties, trips, breakfast and lunch. Rockaway Irish Festival

Save the date! On Saturday, June 6 and Sunday, June 7, head to the St. Camillus parking lot on Beach 100th Street for the annual Irish Festival. Enjoy a day of live music, food, drinks, vendors, bouncy houses and face painting for kids and more. $20 entry, kids 12 and under are free.
