A Night Out for the Hannas
On Friday, October 14, Rockaway came together for a Friend In Need—Brian Hanna. Brian, Liz Hanna’s brother, recently received a liver transplant and is recovering in Jacksonville, Florida. As the family has to cover costs in Florida and back home in Rockaway, while the Hannas are out of work as Brian recovers, friends of the family decided to band together and raise some money for the family that has done so much for others in the community.
Friday’s fundraiser at the Knights of Columbus featured food, fun, plenty of raffle prizes donated by local businesses, a big 50/50, and live entertainment by Wine With Sue and DJs@Work.
Brian Hanna, still in Jacksonville, took to social media to post a letter expressing his gratitude for his new lease on life after living with ulcerative colitis for more than 25 years, to the Mayo Clinic Jacksonville team for pulling off a successful transplant and to the community for showing such generous support in helping to cover some of the financial burdens of making the trip to Florida for the transplant.
“It was a successful night and Rockaway really came through to show support,” Jody Sautner, one of the organizers said.
