CYO Soccer Returns to Ft. Tilden

This past weekend, the St. Francis de Sales CYO program kicked off their 10-week regular game season. With each year, the program expands as more and more parents sign their children up for soccer. This year, under its Parish Athletic Director, Bill Dunn, the soccer program has more than 450 kids competing on 18 teams and participating in its weekly soccer clinic. Over the next two months, teams will travel around Queens competing against neighboring parishes.

On Saturday, September 9, in the grueling heat, the second grade SFDS boys had their season opener vs Blessed Trinity. BT came out of the gate strong, quickly scoring a goal and held the lead into halftime. During halftime, the coaches gave the team a much-needed pep talk and as they took the field, they came together scoring three goals to take the win. Goals were scored by Mickey McGuinness, Brian Kelly and Timmy Welsh along with strong defense by Pete Mosiello Andrew Mullen and Giovanni Shakir held BT to only one goal. Next weekend, the boys will face the parishes of Holy Child and Grace.
