Freezin’ for a Reason for Special Olympics

It was chilly and rainy on Saturday, April 5, but that just primed brave dippers for the conditions of the Atlantic as they took the plunge for Special Olympics.
Dozens of people from near and far jumped into the water on Beach 94th Street to raise money for Special Olympics New York, so they can continue the great programming they offer for special needs athletes. Members of the NYPD and volunteers from the Rockaway Point Volunteer Fire Department were on hand to make sure everyone stayed safe as they took the plunge. More than $33K was raised through the event, with the top fundraising team being the Cross Island Plungers, raising nearly $8,600 and Denise Zayas being the top individual, raising $1,725. Congratulations to all!
